Eternity in Our Hearts

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV

There are days, weeks, months, even YEARS when we wonder, "God, what are you up to?" or we ask "How long, O God?" And then, our gracious Heavenly Father gives us a glimpse of His glory, be it through circumstances, personal time of worship or corporate worship, an encouraging word from a friend, His beautiful Word, etc. Just a glimpse, mind you, and we love Him so much we think our hearts will burst for the force of that love. There is no way our feeble minds can fathom God's ways. We have to trust Him, that He knows what is best for us, even though the process is sometimes so terribly painful. We must think of everything in view of eternity. We, who are God's children, are not finite beings. We know that we can expect eternity behind the door of our bodily death. So, we look to Him, who authored our salvation, to bring the book of our lives on earth to the end, and we'll finally be complete! The sequel, however, is literally worth dying for! Recently I was reminded of a scripture that I've read, oh, a thousand times (give or take).

I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings... Philippians 3:10 NIV.

Did you do like I do many times and read the first part with boldness and that last part with a whisper, in case God might hear you? None of us likes suffering. Shoot, we hate suffering! But, we have this promise in Romans 8:18 NIV: I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. I didn't do a word study on this (pastors and Bible study leaders, you can do this and get back to me), but I believe that we can safely say, according to other scripture, that His glory is not just revealed in us when we're in heaven, but also right now. God is glorified through our lives of suffering and we have fellowship with Christ! How awesome is that?! It puts that stinkin' suffering in its place and says, No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.  Romans 8:37 NIV

So, our Almighty, Eternal God is worthy of our trust, even though we can't fully fathom what He's doing. Can you trust Him?
